Who Is Jesus?

Matthew 14:13-36

Introduction

1.       “Who is Jesus?” – the most important question a person might ask

2.       The apostles spent 3 years with Jesus so that they might give the world an answer

3.       The gospels are the answer to that question  

Discussion

1.       Someone who sympathizes with our grief

a.       His sympathy may be seen in his reaction to the death of John the Baptist  

b.       Seen also in his reaction to the death of Lazarus  

2.       Someone who cares when we are in need

a.       He healed the sick  

b.       He fed the hungry  

c.       He walked on water to be with his disciples in their struggle  

3.       Someone who accepts us when we doubt

a.       Peter was rebuked, but not rejected  

b.       Mark 9:24 “I do believe; help my unbelief” and Jesus did  

4.       Someone who helps all who come to him

a.       Verse 20 – They all ate

b.       Verse 36 – All who touched him were healed

c.       Acts 2:41 (see verse 38)

d.       1 John 2:1-2  

5.       Someone who lifts our burdens

a.       Matt 6:31-33

b.       Matt 11:23-30

c.       Ps 23:1  

Conclusion

1.       The disciples’ response to what they had seen, “You are certainly God’s Son!”

2.       All the fullness of deity dwelt in Jesus – Col 2:9

3.       He is the image of God – Col 1:15

4.       If you will not follow Jesus, whom will you follow?

5.       Jesus will lead you to God
