The Result of Jesus’ Spiritual Discipline

1.      The concept of spiritual discipline

2.      Modeled on the principle of physical discipline – 1 Cor 9:27

3.      Spiritual discipline includes such activities as prayer, fasting, Bible reading, singing, worship and fellowship

4.      Its aim is to help us overcome the flesh and follow the spirit  

Discussion - The result of Jesus’ spiritual discipline

1.       Satan’s power was broken

                                                            i.      Matt 4:11

2.      The power of sin was destroyed

                                                            i.      Col 1:13

4.      He has shown us the way

                                                            i.      In his knowledge and understanding of the will of God – Matt 4:4 (and others)  

                                                          ii.      In his reliance on God – Matt 26:37-39 (notice that he did not rely on the three disciples, but on God)  

                                                        iii.      1 Peter 2:21-25

1.       Talking about being like Jesus and really wanting to be like Jesus are often quite different things
