The Good Shepherd

John 10:1-18

Introduction

1.       The evidence that supports following Jesus alone

a.       The prophecies that went before

b.       The things he did while he was here

c.       His death, resurrection and ascension

2.  Jesus is the Good Shepherd  

Discussion

1.       He is not a thief and a robber – the world is filled with religious “hucksters”

a.       Some make their money on false claims to heal  

b.       Some make their money on fads in religious beliefs  

c.       Some make their money by telling people what they want to hear  

2.       He comes to give life and abundance

a.       God provided for every need of Adam and Eve – Gen 2:8-9  

b.       God provided for every need of Israel in the land of Canaan – Deut 4:37-40  

c.       God provides (through Jesus) for every need of the Christian – Eph 1:3 (chosen, grace, redemption, forgiveness, knowledge, inheritance)  

3.       He lays down His life for the sheep

a.       God came to Adam and Eve after they sinned – Gen 3:8  

b.       God came to rescue Israel from slavery in Egypt – Ex 2:23-25  

c.       God sent His only Son to rescue the world from sin and death by dying on the cross – John 3:16; 1 John 2:2  

4.       His sheep listen to His voice

a.       Some are uninformed  

b.       Some are misinformed  

c.       Some are deliberately mislead  

d.       John 5:39  

Conclusion

1.       Millions have gone before us, relying upon Jesus’ promises, rejoicing in their blessings

2.       Jesus is the Good Shepherd for those who choose to follow Him

3.       Today, you may make that choice
