God’s Provision for His People

2 Peter 1:1-4

 

Introduction

1.       Telemarketers who promise you the world, but only call to benefit themselves compared with God

2.       God has made special promises to those who acknowledge Jesus as Lord

3.       God has made His promises in order that we might become like Him  

Discussion

1.       God has given us all things pertaining to life and godliness

a.       Consider how God provided for Adam and Eve  

b.       Consider how God provided for Abraham  

c.       Consider the statements of Jesus in Matt 6:19-34  

2.       God has granted to us precious and magnificent promises

a.       He has promised us forgiveness and the Holy Spirit – Acts 2:38  

b.       He has promised to help us when we are tempted – 1 Cor 10:13  

c.       He has promised to help us through trials, suffering and other difficulties – Matt 28:20; Phil 4:13  

d.       He has promised us life with Him – John 14:1-3; 1 Thess 4:13-18  

3.       God’s provisions and promises are in order that we might become partakers of the divine nature

a.       People may either degenerate or they may be regenerated by the power of God – the one leads to decay and death, the other to life and glory – there is no middle ground  

b.       Regeneration leads to becoming partakers of the divine nature as we follow the path of Jesus  

c.       We are flesh and spirit – if we are led by the flesh we degenerate – if we are led by the spirit we are regenerated  

d.       Lust leads to degeneration, scripture leads to regeneration  

Conclusion

1.       There are blessings that God gives liberally to all

2.       There are blessings that God only gives to His people
