Thoughts on Christmas 2009

What a wonderful time of year! We find ourselves surrounded by Christmas songs, Christmas trees, Christmas cookies and a frame of mind that seems to be missing the rest of the year. Peace on Earth and good will toward men. What a great thought that is. To look forward to spending time with our families and giving (and receiving) presents from those we love.  The bell ringers are in front of the stores and we all seem to be willing to put something in the red kettle because we are feeling generous at this time of year. We have some beautiful snow on the ground and driving around town looking at the Christmas lights is always a treat for the kids. Any time that our thoughts turn to Peace is fine with me. We spend way too much time not thinking about Peace and love. Speaking of love; that brings me to the main point of the blog.

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son into the world that whosoever believed in him should have everlasting life.” Please take a moment this Holiday season to reflect on the cause for the world’s celebration.  You have heard of the saying “Keep Christ in Christmas.” It is good and pleasant that at this time of year you should take a moment to remember what has been done for you. Through Adam, sin entered the world. Through Jesus Christ, the cure for sin became available to us all. When you think about John 3:16, substitute your name for the words  ”the world” and you can begin to understand the depth and breadth of God’s love for us. Each and every soul is precious to God. He does not want any to be lost. Gos is patiently waiting for you to respond to His invitation through Jesus to come to Him.

Be sure to enjoy the Holiday season. Try to keep the Peace in your heart for more than one day. Show  love to all men. This is the desire of God for you. The Greater Torrington Church of Christ wishes you and yours a Blessed Merry Christmas. May the Peace and Joy of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ dwell in your hearts richly. If you are looking for that Joy and Peace this Holiday, please come and join us for our Worship services at 99 Winsted Road any Sunday morning. Our Bible study time is 10:00 am and our Worship service starts at 11:00 am. Please come and get to know us. We may be the new best friends that you have been looking for. Peace and Joy to you all.

First things first

This is the first blog from the Greater Torrington Church of Christ Evangelist Don Roarabaugh. It is my prayer that this effort will be for the greater glory of God in Northeastern Connecticut. People often ask what religious denomination we belong to. I wonder if it is enough for us [...][...]
