Bible Mothers

Judges 5:4-9

Introduction

1.      The times in which God set up Deborah as judge in Israel, a judge and a “mother” – see Judges 5:7

2.      The position of mothers in God’s plan – see Eph 6:1-3

3.      Honored mothers need to be honorable in the sight of God  

Discussion

1.      Hannah was faithful in prayer – 1 Samuel 1:15; 2:1-10  

2.      Bathsheba had confidence in her son (and her husband) – 1 Kings 1:17  

3.      An excellent wife (and mother) fears the Lord - Prov 31:27-30  

4.      Eunice and Lois taught the Scriptures to their children – 1 Tim 1:5; 3:14-15  

5.      Ruth put God in the center of her life – Ruth 1:16-17  

6.      Jochebed (the mother of Moses) trusted completely in God – Exodus 2:1-4  

Conclusion

1.       We need to provide the world with a Christian model of what the home ought to be

2.      Whether it begins with the father, or with the mother is not what matters, but that we begin

3.      It is character that matters, not money, not education, not sports, not recreation, but people devoted to the principles of God

4.      It begins with a commitment by mothers and fathers to dedicate their lives to God
