The Bankruptcy of Evolution

Ever since Charles Darwin wrote his book, “The Origin of Species” in 1859, scientists who do not believe in God have been trying mightily to confirm his theories.  The beliefs upon which his theory were based have been mostly disproved at this point, yet the theory of evolution continues to dominate thinking in a wide range of fields, morals, ethics, economics, biology, theology and others.

When Darwin’s theory became popular it was widely believed that life could arise spontaneously from a variety of environments.  Pasteur and others had yet to prove that life only comes from life.  It was years later that the scientific view of “biogenesis” (life comes from life) became firmly established.

Even with this principle firmly established, those who believe in evolution continued to cling to the belief that there is one exception to the law of biogenesis.  This is roughly similar to jumping off a cliff and hoping that the law of gravity will be suspended just one time.

After years of experimenting with various chemical combinations and using electrical charges to produce a chain reaction, scientists have been unable to produce life from lifeless matter.  Even great intelligence has not been able to reproduce what God did  in the beginning.  At this point, evolution should have been rejected as a scientific theory, but it was not.

When Darwin first proposed his theory, he proposed a system in which the “fittest” would survive.  He made no proposals as to how the “fittest” would arrive on the scene in order that natural selection could work to choose the “fittest.”  It was later that scientists proposed mutations as the way in which changes would be introduced.  Darwin’s theory simply suggested that small changes would accumulate over eons of time to produce all the variety we see in our world today.  Despite repeated experiments, there is still no evidence that mutations can produce a new kinds of life forms.

Darwin’s hope was that further fossil discoveries would fill in the missing blanks in his evolutionary scheme, thus proving him right.  The problem is that the “missing fossils” have still not been found.  The evidence continues to accumulate that there are no transitional forms between the major groups of life forms.  Evolution must be supposed to always have been happening somewhere other than where the fossils are being discovered.

In order to bring evolutionary theory into line with the evidence, it is now being proposed that life forms were unchanged for long periods of time and then in a very brief time underwent dramatic changes to produce new species.  This explanation is said to account for the missing transitional forms by saying that the evolution happened too quickly to be found in the fossil records.  Again, evolution should have been rejected as a scientific theory because the evidence did not fit, but it was not.

No one seems to notice that the fossil record is consistent with what the Bible teaches about God creating “kinds” which reproduce only similar “kinds.”

To make matters even worse for those who choose to believe in evolution, biochemists have now begun analyzing what happens inside a cell.  While evolution may account for improvements in vision, evolutionary theory cannot explain the intricate mechanisms occurring inside the cell that enable it to detect light.  To put the matter simply, there is just no way that small, incremental changes could have produced a cell that was able to detect light.  Without that original cell to detect light, there would be nothing to “improve” to reach the present state of vision in animals and humans.  The original cell that detected light had to have a Creator.

All of this would be simply “academic” if it were not for the effect that “evolutionary thinking” has had upon other fields of study.

For example, evolutionary thinking has led “experts” to conclude that there is no divine lawgiver.  Since everything is a result of evolution, there is no God.  Therefore all moral codes are relative.  There are no absolute standards of right and wrong.  Society’s ideas of right and wrong have evolved as humans have evolved.

Since humans are “evolving” they are undoubtedly getting better.  Moral codes then are a relic from the past that we have “outgrown.”

That has led us down the path that we are on today.  God’s standards have been rejected, because after all, God does not exist and everything has simply evolved.  But since things have not evolved there is a divine Creator.  And that Creator has given us an absolute code of right and wrong!

It is time to “wake up and smell the coffee!”  Right and wrong are not the result of evolution.  They exist as the divine decrees of our Creator.  We are subject, not to the whims of society, but to the eternal judgment of the God who created us.

Sociologists and psychologists who tell us that we are ever improving have gotten it wrong.  Man has always, since the garden of Eden, known good and evil.  There is the capacity within every man to do good.  But there is also the capacity in EVERY man to do evil.  Without consequences, men will naturally choose evil.  It is only by enacting laws that punish the evil doers and by creating a society that rewards those who work, that we can build a stable society.

“Do not be deceived.  God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.  For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life.”  Galatians 6:7-8
