"Shall We Attack?"

1 Samuel 23:1-5

Introduction

1.      Not a day to talk about a baby in a manger, but a King upon His throne

2.      David comes to the rescue of the Israelites in Keilah – his question to God:  “Shall we attack?”

3.      He then learns that the people of Keilah will hand him over to his enemy, King Saul  

Discussion – Shall we attack?

1.      The idea that ALL the Bible is not the Word of God

a.       Excuses

                                                            i.      Just myths and legends

                                                          ii.      Supposed internal contradictions

                                                        iii.      Supposed contradictions with science  

b.      Morals

                                                            i.      Times have changed

                                                          ii.      People have misunderstood what the Bible is saying  

c.       2 Tim 3:16-17  

2.      The idea that ALL religions are equally good

a.       All religions possess some truth  

b.      All religions attempt to give people what they need  

c.       “Where you are born determines what you believe”  

d.      Mark 16:15-16  

3.      The idea that Jesus is not the ONLY way to God

a.       There are only two basic systems

                                                            i.      Earn your way

                                                          ii.      Grace and forgiveness  

b.      There is no hell  

c.       Acts 4:12  

Conclusion

1.       Matt 7:15 – we are to attack wolves, not sheep

2.      John 8:32 – we are to attack error, not truth

3.      Eph 4:15 – we are to attack in love, not anger

4.      Our mission:  To seek and save the lost
